LAWTF — Champagne Gala and Awards Ceremony

The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival (LAWTF)
marks 25 years of producing well over 500 extraordinary multicultural and multidisciplinary solo performers from around the globe.

The longest-running Annual Solo Festival for women in Los Angeles
LAWTF
will take place
March 29- April 1, 2018
at the
Barnsdall Gallery Theatre
in Hollywood and at the Electric Lodge in Venice.

The theme of the Festival will be A Toast to 25!
The theme of the opening night Gala will be Legacy and Destiny.

The Champagne Gala and Awards Ceremony on March 29, 2018 will be held in honor of the seven women who are co-founders of the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival: Adilah Barnes, Joyce Guy, Judith Heineman, Nina Kaufman, Helene McCardle, Miriam Reed and Phylise Smith.

This will be held at
Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Barnsdall Park
4800 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90027.
There is free parking onsite, including shuttle services from the remote parking lot..

Following the dinner reception at 6:30 p.m.,
and a Live Theatre Walk at 6:45 p.m.,
the festivities continue at 8:00 p.m.
with the recognition of our honorees,
and recognition of past and present performers
and awardees over the last 25 years.

The Live Theatre Walk will feature ten female artistes performing extracts from their solo works: Kate Huffman, Mariel Josette, Debra De Liso, Tangie Ambrose, Karen Bankhead, Ella Turenne, Ruth Featherstone, Jennie Fahn, Misty Monroe and Brittanie Richardson.

The 25TH Anniversary Opening Night Gala on March 29 will be hosted by Hattie Winston (Becker) and Ted Lange (The Love Boat) and directed by Iona Morris (X-Men) .

There will be special live performances in addition to the awards presentations, including entertainment by actor and comedian Wendy Hammers, who will perform Fifty Shades of Gray Hair, a reflection upon the benefits of aging (excerpted from her hit show Ripe); and Juli Kim, who will perform Dance with Bells, a Korean dance evoking the vibrant women of Hwang Hae Island, who wore bells on their wrists or feet to mesmerize their audiences while they danced. Choreography by Choi Seung Hee.

Additionally there will be an opening number featuring performers Juliette Jeffers, Dina Morrone, Karen Clark, Jonisha Rios, Stacie Chaiken, Alina Cenal, Kim Maxwell, Kristina Wong, Sheetal Gandhi, Veenesh Dubois, Jude Narita and Naomi Ackerman.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by percussionist Munyungo Jackson (Stevie Wonder) and keyboardist Kevin Fluornoy (Ronnie Laws).

The remainder of the Festival
on Friday, March 30 at 8:00 p.m.;
Saturday, March 31 at 3:00 and 8:00;
and Sunday, April 1 at 3:00 p.m.
will return to
the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Avenue, Venice, CA 90291.
