SUMMARY:BBC America Premieres Eight-Part Short Film Series\, "Queers"
DESCRIPTION:BBC AMERICA is co-producing Queers\, an eight-part short film series in which eight established writers respond to the 50th anniversary of The  (1967) Sexual Offences Act which partially decriminalized homosexual acts between men in the UK.  Curated and directed by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock)\, the films (in eight 15-minute monologues) star award winners Alan Cumming\, Ben Whishaw\, Rebecca Front\, Russell Tovey\, Gemma Whelan\, Ian Gelder\, Kadiff Kirwan and Fionn Whitehead. \nThe series will premiere on October 14th at 10/9c. \nSarah Barnett\, BBC AMERICA President\, commented\, \n“Queers is a unique and affecting series of short films about the British Gay experience.   Brilliantly written and performed\, these monologues may be compact but they are brimful of humor\, heartbreak\, joy\, humanity\, and tenderness.” \nTaking in 1957’s Wolfenden Report\, the HIV crisis and the 1967 Sexual Offence Act itself\, the eight monologues will explore some of the most poignant\, funny\, tragic and riotous moments of British gay history and the very personal rites-of-passage of British gay men through the last one hundred years. \nIn The Man On The Platform\, Ben Whishaw (London Spy\, Spectre) returns from the trenches of the First World War\, while a hundred years later\, Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) reflects on gay marriage in Something Borrowed. \nMore Anger finds Russell Tovey (Him And Her\, Being Human) playing a gay actor in the 1980s\, and Rebecca Front (War And Peace\, Humans) contemplates her very particular marriage in Missing Alice. \nGemma Whelan (Game of Thrones\, Decline and Fall)\, Kadiff Kirwan (Black Mirror\, Chewing Gum)\, Ian Gelder (Snatch\, Game of Thrones) and Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk\, HIM) appear respectively in A Perfect Gentleman\, Safest Spot In Town\, I Miss The War and A Grand Day Out\, each examining the very different attitudes and social changes in gay men’s lives over the century. \nThe films are written by authors Matthew Baldwin\, Jon Bradfield\, Michael Dennis\, Keith Jarrett\, and Gareth McLean\, who are writing for television for the first time\, alongside established screenwriters Jackie Clune\, Brian Fillis and Gatiss himself. \nThe series is produced by BBC Studios Pacific Quay Productions and is a co-production of BBC and BBC AMERICA.

SUMMARY:"Woman in Black" at The Belfry
DESCRIPTION:The Woman in Black \nDirected by Jacob Smith\nAdapted by Stephen Mallatratt\nBased on the book by Susan Hill\nProduced by Theatre Unleashed \nAdapted by Stephen Mallatratt and based on the book by Susan Hill\, The Woman in Black is a chilling classic ghost story in its purest form. A lawyer who has experienced a recent tragedy and believes his family is cursed hires a skeptical but enthusiastic actor to help him tell his tale and hopefully exorcise the fear that paralyzes him. With the actor’s help\, he shares his story of that dark and stormy night when he first saw a horrifying specter\, one that haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was killed. As they prepare their performance\, they experience something unsettling as they learn more about what happens to those who have witnessed The Woman in Black. \n“While this is a popular play\, one major difference in this production compared to others that audiences may have seen  is the intimate space at The Belfry\,” said Jacob Smith\, who is directing. “We don’t have the benefit of a giant proscenium stage. Everything we do in this show has to be very precise\, because it’s basically like the theatre version of close up magic. The tightness of the space will hopefully add to the experience and make it feel like a more immersive experience.” \nSmith\, a longtime Theatre Unleashed actor and director (Three Can Keep a Secret\, Ligature Marks\, Boy Gets Girl\, The Birthday Boys)\, said it was both this challenge and the depth of the script that pulled him to directing this show. \n“It’s full of terrifying stories\, sad tales\, funny moments and\, to me\, a very genuine connection between the two men in the play\,” he said. “I was also very attracted to directing the piece because the actors are constantly playing other people\, and their perceptions of those other people informs how much of a character is presented.” \nThe Woman in Black opens soon after the closing of TU’s hit soap opera comedy Camp Ragnarok. \n  \nWHEN:\nSeptember 29 to November 4\nThursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays\n8 p.m. \nat\nThe Belfry Stage\n Upstairs at the Crown\n11031 Camarillo St.\nNorth Hollywood\, CA 91602 \n\nGeneral Admission: $20 \n\nFor tickets and further information: (818) 849-4039\nOr check out www.theatreunleashed.org

It has been listed on many ‘best of’ lists for 2012 and has been receiving raves reviews from writers and DJs everywhere. Her most recent CD BONAFIDE\, came out last year and has been getting rave reviews. \nShe has performed live with such legendary artists as Levon Helm\, Delbert McClinton\, Eric Burdon\, Marcia Ball\, Tommy Castro\, Big Al Anderson\, Kirk Whalum\, and many others. Her voice is featured on albums by Randy Newman\, Eric Burdon\, Tommy Castro\, Bill Medley\, and Walter Trout\, among others.
